J. Caig Venter Institute

J. Carig Venter, visionario californiano y antiguo surfista volcado a la ciencia, fue testigo de cómo un extraordinario logro del género humano se realizó bajo su dirección. Como fundador del Celera Genomics Group en mayo de 1998, Venter guió a la compañía que se embarcó, durante tres años, en la misión de descifrar el genoma humano. Y eso fue lo que hicieron, incluso adelantándose al cronograma. Lo que ayudó a mover el proyecto más rápido de lo anticipado, fue su comprensión del negocio comercial combinado con una pasión por la proliferación de la investigación científica. Venter descendió a CEO de Celera y dejó la compañía en enero de 2002.

También fundó la J. Craig Venter Science Foundation y el J. Craig Venter Institute, los cuales llevan a cabo investigaciones básicas para promover el avance de la ciencia de los genomas. Ha publicado más de 200 artículos de investigación, y reibió numerosos títulos honorarios y premios.
