Karate Kid (1984)

Daniel, un muchacho que vive con su madre soltera, es amedrentado en la escuela por un grupo de chicos miembros de un club de karate. Daniel se hace amigo de un inmigrante japonés amable y humilde llamado Mr. Miyagi, quien más tarde se le revela como un experto del karate. Bajo las técnicas de entrenamiento inusuales de Miyagi –que incluye laboriosas tareas domésticas de encerado, arenado y pintura- Daniel aprende a defenderse a sí mismo y finalmente vence a sus antagonistas en una competencia de artes marciales.

La película refleja la creencia de que aprender artes marciales es entrenar tanto la mente y el espíritu como el cuerpo. La película exhibe además la neutralidad de las artes marciales –un arte marcial puede ser usado tanto para el bien como para el mal. A Karate Kid se le adjudica haber popularizado y renovado el interés por las artes marciales y generó 2 secuelas -Karate Kid 2 (1986) y Karate Kid 3 (1989).
