Afrodita

La cautivante Afrodita era la diosa del amor, el sexo, la regeneración y la belleza corpórea. Considerada oriunda de la isla de Chipre, su belleza ha inspirado a artistas a través de las eras: La Venus de Milo es una Afrodita del siglo II a.C., de la isla griega de Mílos. Afrodita está estrechamente relacionada con el deseo sexual, y era la patrona de las prostitutas. Su matrimonio con el dios Hefesto no la detuvo en su adquisición de amantes, tanto mortales como inmortales. Tuvo amoríos con Adonis y con Anquises, con quien dio a luz al héroe Eneas. El joven dios Eros fue su hijo con Ares, mientras que Hermafrodito, su hijo con Hermes, éste se unió en un sólo cuerpo con la ninfa Salmacis, dando a lugar a nuestro término ‘hermafrodita’.
